Amid intense political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu following the Assembly election results, the DMK legislature party on Thursday passed a resolution authorising party president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take all crucial political decisions on behalf of the party.
The resolution was adopted during a meeting of newly elected DMK legislators held in Chennai. Senior leaders and MLAs expressed support for Stalin to handle the evolving political situation and determine the partyâs future course of action.
The meeting comes at a time when Tamil Nadu politics has entered a highly fluid phase after the election delivered a fractured mandate, with no single alliance comfortably crossing the majority mark in the Assembly.
In the resolution, the DMK strongly criticised the Congress party for distancing itself from the DMK-led alliance after the election and extending support elsewhere. Party leaders accused the Congress of betraying the alliance despite being accommodated generously during seat-sharing negotiations.
The DMK leadership reportedly told legislators that stability in Tamil Nadu remains the immediate priority and that the party must take decisions keeping the interests of the State and the Dravidian movement in mind.
According to party sources, Stalin emphasised that the current political situation requires swift and strategic decisions. Legislators were asked to remain united and support whatever political stand is ultimately taken by the leadership.
The resolution also underlined concerns over political instability and the possibility of another election if parties fail to arrive at a workable arrangement to form the government. DMK leaders reportedly conveyed that the State cannot afford prolonged uncertainty at a crucial time.
Political speculation has intensified over possible new alignments among major parties after the results. Several discussions are believed to be taking place behind the scenes as parties explore options to secure the required majority in the Assembly.
