Chennai, May 9:
Amid the ongoing political uncertainty in Tamil Nadu, DMK president M. K. Stalin on Friday called upon Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to immediately initiate constitutional procedures for forming a new government following the Assembly election results.
In a statement shared on social media, Stalin emphasized the need for timely action, subtly cautioning against any delay that could lead to the imposition of President’s Rule. Notably, his statement avoided mentioning any specific political party, including key contenders like Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam or the AIADMK.
Highlighting the constitutional process, Stalin pointed out that the Election Commission had already released the list of elected MLAs and that the previous Assembly had been dissolved. In this context, he stressed that forming a new government was both an urgent necessity and a democratic responsibility to ensure governance and welfare measures continue without disruption.
He further underlined that elected representatives must be sworn in at the earliest to carry forward administrative functions and serve the people effectively. Any delay, he suggested, could undermine democratic principles and governance stability in the state.
Appealing directly to the Governor, Stalin urged that immediate steps be taken in accordance with constitutional provisions to facilitate the formation of a new administration. His remarks come at a crucial juncture, as political parties continue efforts to secure the numbers required to stake claim to power.
