Kamal Haasan’s iconic film “Aalavandhan,” which originally hit screens in 2001, is gearing up for a triumphant return to theaters after 22 years. Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu, who has been building anticipation for the re-release, officially announced that the film is slated to hit cinemas on December 8.
This exciting news follows the recent re-release of Kamal Haasan’s film “Virumaandi” on his birthday, November 7, which received a warm and enthusiastic reception from audiences.
Directed by Suresh Krissna, “Aalavandhan” is an adaptation of Kamal Haasan’s 1984 novel “Dhayam.” The film showcases Haasan’s versatility as an actor, featuring him in dual roles, alongside a stellar cast including Raveena Tandon, Manisha Koirala, Sarath Babu, Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Madurai GS Mani, and Milind Gunaji in supporting roles. Notably, the film was simultaneously shot in Hindi with the title “Abhay,” starring three different actors.
Despite receiving mixed reactions upon its initial release, “Aalavandhan” has acquired a cult status over the years, particularly among Kamal Haasan’s devoted fan base. The film’s unique narrative and Haasan’s commendable performance have contributed to its enduring popularity. It is worth mentioning that “Aalavandhan” secured the National Film Award for Best Special Effects, adding to its accolades.
