BJP leader Annamalai expressed grief over the death of a patient after a ventilator failed in sudden power disruption at the Tiruvarur government medical college hospital. He demanded the government equip all government hospitals in the state with adequate infrastructure to prevent loss of lives in the future. He tweeted, ‘It is disheartening to see the falling state of Government hospitals under the Corrupt DMK Govt. While a DMK Minister without portfolio arrested for Corruption prefers a private hospital for treatment, a patient lost her life due to the non-availability of power backup in a critical area such as an ICU in a govt hospital. This is a reality check to TN CM’s tall claims.’ In a post on X, formerly Twitter, PMK leadervAnbumani said government medical college hospitals, which must have uninterrupted power supply around the clock, do not have any alternative arrangements in case of power disruption. Anbumani demanded a thorough investigation into the death of the patient at the government facility and a solatium of ₹25 lakh to the family of the deceased woman. He accused the government of attempting to cover up the incident. TNEB officials claimed that there was no power disruption and added that a problem in the distribution of power by the public works department led to the accident. However, hospital sources claimed that the ventilators will function using their internal battery even if the power connection is disconnected. @@@
