In a bid to reduce sexual crimes against children, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has produced a series of awareness videos on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. These videos have been released on YouTube to educate the public about the special laws in place to protect children.Despite the existence of laws like POCSO, many sexual offenses against children go unreported due to a lack of awareness. To address this issue, the NCPCR has created 16 awareness videos to be shown in schools across the country.
Tamil Nadu’s Director of School Education, Kannappan, has issued orders to all schools in the state, instructing them to screen these videos for students during school assembly or other appropriate times. Schools have been provided with links to the videos and are required to show them to students by August 10, 2024.
Additionally, school principals have been asked to submit a report confirming that the videos have been shown to the students, ensuring compliance with the directive.
The initiative aims to empower students with knowledge about their rights and the legal protections available to them under the POCSO Act, contributing to a safer environment for children across the state.
