Unfazed by speculations about the stability of its alliance, the ruling DMK on Wednesday called upon its party cadre to commence groundwork for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The call was made during a high-level executive committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin at Anna Arivalayam.In a resolution passed during the meeting, the DMK exhorted its members to launch campaigns at the grassroots level. “Every cadre must begin the poll campaign work from today in such a way that each one of them is a movement. Cadres! Begin people’s movements like distribution of pamphlets and street campaigns. Let us rise (win) for the seventh time,” the resolution read.
The resolution emphasized highlighting the achievements of the DMK regime and the dedication of Chief Minister Stalin. “There shall be no doubt that the applause of the beneficiaries (of government schemes) and satisfaction of beneficiaries would together ensure the victory of the DMK again in the 2026 Assembly polls,” it stated.
The DMK urged its workers to remind the people of the government’s accomplishments and its futuristic vision, positioning the party as the preferred choice for continued governance.
The fervent appeal comes amid efforts by the principal opposition party, AIADMK, to attract allies of the DMK to its fold. The AIADMK has been strategizing to regain political momentum, but the DMK remains confident about its prospects.
While the executive committee met on Wednesday, the much-anticipated general council meeting is yet to be scheduled. Former DMK MP T.K.S. Elangovan, who attended the meeting, said that the party president would announce the timing of the council meeting. Sources indicate that the meeting might take place in Trichy in January 2025, a shift from its usual venue in Chennai.
Reiterating its commitment to Tamil Nadu’s development, the DMK’s resolution claimed that the people of the state wish for the party to rule indefinitely. With its eyes firmly set on securing a seventh consecutive victory, the DMK has set the tone for an early start to its 2026 campaign.
