BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran has raised sharp questions over whether Chief Minister M K Stalin and DMK MP S Jagathrakshakan endorse lyricist Vairamuthu’s recent remarks about Lord Ram and the Ramayana. In a statement, Nagenthran pointed to Stalin’s earlier claim of having provided funds for the construction of a Ram temple and Jagathrakshakan’s work in setting up an ‘Azhwar Research Centre’ as well as his study of the Kamba Ramayanam.
“Do they support Vairamuthu’s comments, made during a book launch hosted by the DMK MP, which insulted Lord Ram, revered by millions of Hindus?” he asked.
The BJP leader criticised the DMK for remaining silent on the matter. “The party often talks about religious unity in public meetings. Why has it not condemned these remarks? Many DMK leaders, including Ministers and councillors, are Hindus. Do they not understand that such comments can offend their own members?” he said.
Nagenthran accused Vairamuthu of distorting the meaning of the Kamba Ramayanam without fully reading it or understanding key Tamil terms. He demanded that the lyricist apologise publicly.
Calling for action from the State government, he said it should uphold its stated commitment to religious harmony and take steps to ensure such incidents do not harm communal unity.
