Vellore, Sept 27: Tamil Nadu Congress leader Selva Perunthagai made strong remarks about the party and the political situation in the state during a press meet in Vellore. He used a striking metaphor, saying that the Congress party in Tamil Nadu is growing “slowly, like an elephant.”Perunthagai highlighted the challenges faced by other parties in the state, noting that the DMK alliance appears to be weakening. He pointed out that several AIADMK leaders, including DTV Dhinakaran, O. Panneerselvam (OPS), and Sasikala, have left the party. He also observed that Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) seems to be losing influence over time.
Speaking about internal demands within the Congress, where some leaders are asking for party positions ahead of elections, Perunthagai said, “Everyone has the right to express their views. But decisions will be taken only by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).” He stressed that party leadership and decision-making remain centralized and organized.
Perunthagai warned others not to underestimate Congress. He explained that the party has already established around 20,000 committees across Tamil Nadu, each managed by responsible leaders and workers. This, he said, shows the strength and organizational reach of Congress in the state.
Using his elephant metaphor further, he said, “Don’t reduce the value of Congress. This is like an elephant. If you anger it, you don’t know what might happen.” His comments conveyed both confidence in the party’s growth and a caution to political rivals.
The leader’s statements came amid discussions on party positioning, alliances, and preparations for upcoming elections in Tamil Nadu. By emphasizing the slow but steady growth of Congress, Perunthagai sought to reassure party members and supporters about its relevance and strength in the state’s political landscape.
