New Delhi, Dec 17: At the UN Security Council, India strongly criticized Pakistan for pursuing a “divisive agenda,” highlighting Islamabad’s approach to governance, including the jailing of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and granting lifetime immunity to its army chief.India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, delivered the remarks after Pakistan raised the issues of Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty during an open debate on “Leadership for Peace.”
Harish condemned Pakistan’s repeated focus on harming India, asserting that a Security Council member with such an obsession cannot be expected to fulfill its responsibilities. He emphasized that India will counter all forms of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism with full force.
Rejecting Pakistan’s assertion that the Kashmir issue should be settled according to UN resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people, Harish criticized Islamabad’s domestic actions, including jailing a prime minister, banning the ruling party, and passing the 27th Constitutional Amendment granting the Chief of Defence Forces lifetime legal immunity.
India reaffirmed that the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of the country.
Regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish highlighted Pakistan’s violations over 65 years, including three wars and thousands of terror attacks, and cited the recent Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025, which killed 26 civilians.
Consequently, India announced that the treaty will be held in abeyance until Pakistan credibly ends all support for cross-border and other forms of terrorism.
The statement underscores India’s firm stance on territorial integrity, security, and accountability, while condemning Pakistan’s domestic and international actions as destabilising.
