Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthiran has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking his intervention over what he described as a “deeply disturbing deterioration” in the State’s law and order situation.
Expressing concern over a spate of violent incidents in recent days, Nagenthiran highlighted attacks on migrant workers, increasing drug abuse among youth, and what he termed as the failure of the State’s law enforcement system to ensure public safety.
He cited the death of Suraj (22), a migrant worker from West Bengal employed at a hotel in Coimbatore, who succumbed to injuries following a violent altercation on December 30. He also referred to another incident on December 29, where a migrant labourer was allegedly attacked by youngsters reportedly under the influence of ganja at Thiruttani Railway Station.
On December 30, two youths allegedly assaulted another passenger at the same station.
“These incidents clearly indicate a rising trend of violence against migrant workers and reflect a disturbing pattern,” he said, also recalling previous episodes including the cylinder blast near Kottai Eswaran Temple in Coimbatore and arrests linked to suspected extremist activity.
The BJP leader further flagged frequent reports of robberies, murders, attacks on the elderly, and crimes against women and children, stating that public confidence in safety has been “seriously shaken.” He blamed what he termed as the DMK government’s failure in handling law and order.
Urging Amit Shah’s intervention, Nagenthiran sought “appropriate action” to protect vulnerable groups and restore public faith in law enforcement in Tamil Nadu.
