Women now constitute 51 per cent of the total electorate in Tamil Nadu, according to the final voter list released ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The updated electoral roll shows that female voters outnumber male voters across the State. Of the total electorate, women make up a little over half, marking a steady rise in their representation compared to previous elections.
The overall voter strength in Tamil Nadu runs into several crores, with women forming the single largest voting bloc. The number of registered female voters has grown at a faster pace than male voters over the past few years, contributing to the widening gap.
In several districts, including major urban centres, women voters exceed male voters. The data also includes electors registered under the third gender category, reflecting continued efforts towards inclusive voter registration.
With women forming the majority of the electorate, political parties are expected to sharpen their focus on issues affecting women as they prepare for the Assembly polls.
