Chennai, Dec 22: In a significant turn of events, the Madras High Court has delivered a verdict sentencing Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy to three years imprisonment in a corruption case. This development, according to BJP State President K Annamalai, is anticipated to pave the way for substantial political changes in the state.
Annamalai, addressing reporters, remarked, “The judgement has come at a crucial juncture of Tamil Nadu politics. In the next one year, I expect seven to eight similar judgments.” This statement underscores the prevailing concern over corruption cases within the state’s political landscape.
Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Annamalai pointed out that 11 out of 35 ministers in the Tamil Nadu cabinet are currently facing corruption allegations. He further identified ministers K K S S R Ramachandran, Thangam Thennarasu, and Geetha Jeevan as individuals potentially next in line to face legal scrutiny.
Expressing his opinion on the broader implications, Annamalai emphasized that this judgement is poised to have a “huge” impact on the upcoming elections. “Never before have we seen such a situation in the state. The money power of the DMK will be questioned in the upcoming elections,” he stated. This suggests a potential shift in the political dynamics, with corruption allegations becoming a focal point in the public discourse.
