Chennai, Jan 10: As the countdown to the Lok Sabha elections begins, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), the principal opposition party in Tamil Nadu, is intensifying its groundwork for the impending electoral battle. With just two months left until the election notification, the party, under the leadership of general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, is actively engaging with district secretaries and key functionaries to streamline its election strategy.Palaniswami, who recently conducted extensive discussions with district secretaries and office-bearers, emphasized the importance of meticulous preparations at the grassroots level. The discussions covered various aspects, including the selection of candidates, fine-tuning booth committees, scrutinizing electoral rolls, and other essential groundwork.
During these interactions, Palaniswami conveyed a clear directive to focus on ensuring foolproof readiness for the polls, instructing district secretaries not to be overly concerned about alliance formations at this stage. Instead, he urged them to concentrate on selecting the right candidates and strengthening the party’s grassroots presence.
Sources indicate that Palaniswami assured party colleagues that the finalization of candidates could be deferred until after alliance discussions are concluded. This strategic move allows flexibility for potential allies, such as the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), to make informed decisions regarding the alliance.
Addressing reporters after the district secretaries meeting at the party headquarters, Palaniswami outlined additional tasks. He instructed office-bearers to meticulously review the electoral roll set to be released by the Election Commission, checking for any irregularities such as dual enrollment or the inclusion of deceased individuals. Corrective measures were deemed crucial to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
Furthermore, Palaniswami directed the district secretaries to organize public meetings commemorating the birth anniversary of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran on January 17. These gatherings will serve a dual purpose by celebrating the party’s legacy and highlighting what Palaniswami referred to as the ‘failures of the DMK government.’
