Kicking off his “En Mann, En Makkal” yatra from Kalasapakkam in Tiruvannamalai district, BJP State President K Annamalai accused major Dravidian parties in Tamil Nadu of obstructing the implementation of central government education schemes. Annamalai claimed that these actions were preventing people in the state from accessing international-quality education. Pointing to a central government survey that identified a shortage of 11,717 classrooms in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai alleged that political parties were hindering the establishment of Navodaya schools, which provide high-quality education. He also noted challenges faced by Ekalavya schools, designed to offer similar educational opportunities for tribals in the Jawadhu hills. Annamalai further claimed that despite Prime Minister Modi’s willingness to provide 14,000 schools at an estimated cost of Rs 18,128 crore, the Tamil Nadu government had formally communicated that such schools were not needed in the state. In contrast, he highlighted that Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana had sought 662, 129, and 534 schools, respectively, for their states.
