TTV Dhinakaran, leader of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), issued a scathing critique of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over recent drug seizures in Tamil Nadu. In a pointed post on the social media platform X, Dhinakaran demanded immediate and stringent actions against those involved in drug trafficking, regardless of their political affiliations.Dhinakaran expressed his outrage over the state governmentās perceived indifference to the escalating drug problem. “The indifference of the DMK government, which has turned Tamil Nadu into a commercial center for drugs, is highly condemnable,” he stated. He referenced several incidents, including the seizure of drugs worth Rs 22 crore smuggled into Chennai, the discovery of drug pills disguised in medicine bottles in Coimbatore, and the sale of drug needles targeting college students.
Highlighting the severe impact of drug availability on the youth, Dhinakaran noted, “The widespread availability of drugs across Tamil Nadu is destroying the futures of many young people. It is highly condemnable that both the ruling party and the opposition are allegedly encouraging drug trafficking.” He emphasized the growing concern as reports indicate that college students and young people are increasingly falling prey to drug addiction, with these substances being readily available from Chennai to the most remote corners of the state.
Dhinakaran also brought attention to allegations involving political figures in drug-related activities. “Starting from the notorious drug smuggler Jaffer Siddique, many DMK leaders are allegedly involved in the sales of drugs. Recently, an aide close to a former AIADMK minister has been arrested in a ganja case, which has raised suspicion among the public that both the ruling and former ruling parties might be collaborating in the drug trade,” he accused.
The AMMK leader underscored the broader implications of the drug crisis, linking it to a general decline in law and order in Tamil Nadu. “The drug menace is ruining the futures of the youth, alongside daily occurrences of murder, robbery, and crimes against women, contributing to the deteriorating law and order in the state,” he remarked.
In his appeal, Dhinakaran urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to take decisive action to address the drug issue. “I urge Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. MK Stalin to eradicate the widespread drug circulation across the state and take strict action against whoever is supporting drug trafficking, irrespective of whether it is the ruling party or the opposition party,” he said.
