The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has taken a significant step in enhancing educational opportunities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alliance Française of Madras. This collaboration will introduce French as an optional subject in four selected corporation schools starting from the upcoming academic session. The MoU, formalized in a ceremony attended by Chennai Mayor R. Priya and the Consul General of France, Lise Talbot Barre, outlines that French will be offered as an optional subject from Class VI. The program will be implemented in the following schools:
Chennai Higher Secondary Schools: Perambur and Tondiarpet
Chennai Girls Higher Secondary Schools: Saidapet and Thiruvanmiyur
Each school will initially offer French to 20 students. The classes will be conducted by trained teachers following the French curriculum, aiming to provide students with high-quality language instruction.
The introduction of French in these schools is intended to bridge the gap between corporation schools and private institutions, enhancing students’ language skills and expanding their career opportunities. By offering French, the GCC aims to provide students with an additional skill that could benefit their future academic and professional prospects.
The partnership between GCC and Alliance Française of Madras marks a significant advancement in the city’s educational landscape. By incorporating French into the curriculum of corporation schools, the initiative is set to enrich students’ learning experiences and prepare them for a globalized world.
