Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president KS Selvaperunthagai has slapped a legal notice on Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) State general secretary K Jeysankar, demanding an unconditional apology and ₹10 crore in compensation for defamation. The notice was issued following Jeysankar’s allegations linking Selvaperunthagai to the murder of former BSP State president K Armstrong.
Selvaperunthagai claimed that Jeysankar’s accusations, made on social media and to the media, were intended to defame him both personally and politically. The TNCC chief strongly denied any involvement in Armstrong’s murder, emphasizing that he and the former BSP leader had shared a good and cordial relationship. The notice highlighted that Jeysankar’s statements lacked any material evidence and were contrary to the truth.
The TNCC president also refuted allegations made by Jeysankar that linked him to Nagendhiran, a jailed history-sheeter. Jeysankar had claimed that Selvaperunthagai had appointed Nagendhiran’s son, Aswathaman, as the principal secretary of the TNCC youth wing—a claim the Congress leader categorically denied.
In his legal notice, Selvaperunthagai demanded that Jeysankar issue an unconditional apology for his “defamatory and malafide” statements within 14 days. He also sought ₹10 crore in compensation for the mental anguish he endured due to the accusations.
The controversy erupted after Jeysankar, on September 17, wrote a letter to Indian National Congress (INC) president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing Selvaperunthagai of involvement in Armstrong’s murder. He made these allegations public, which were subsequently reported by various news outlets.
Selvaperunthagai has strongly objected to the claims, asserting that they were baseless and made with the sole intent of tarnishing his reputation. The TNCC president has made it clear that he will pursue legal action unless Jeysankar retracts his statements and issues a public apology.
