The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a heavy rainfall warning, with a low-pressure area expected to form over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days. This development is likely to bring widespread rainfall across Tamil Nadu and parts of the southern peninsula, starting on October 13.

According to the RMC, the current atmospheric circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Indian Ocean is set to intensify into a low-pressure system, moving northwestward as it develops.

Rainfall Predictions for Tamil Nadu:
October 13: Districts in southern Tamil Nadu—Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Tirupur, Coimbatore, and The Nilgiris—are forecast to receive rain.

October 14: The rains are expected to shift northward, affecting Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Puducherry. Chennai and its neighboring districts—Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur—are also expected to experience showers.

October 15: Heavy rainfall is predicted in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, and Tiruvallur. The intensity of the rain is expected to increase in these areas.

October 16: The heavy rainfall will likely move northwest, impacting Tiruvallur, Ranipet, and Vellore, while the western districts of Tamil Nadu are set to receive moderate to heavy showers.

The weather department also hinted at an above-normal northeast monsoon season for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, urging residents to brace for potentially heavy rains in the near future.
