Echoing AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami’s views, senior BJP leader and former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan has claimed that the DMK-led alliance lost significant ground in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to reporters at the BJP headquarters, Kamalalayam, Tamilisai stated that the ruling alliance had suffered a 10% drop in votes compared to the 2019 elections. She also noted a lack of camaraderie among DMKâs alliance partners, signaling potential discord within the coalition.âThere is no spirit of harmony among the alliance parties. Leaders like Thirumavalavan, Velmurugan, and Balakrishnan often criticize the DMK. This alliance is unlikely to last,â Tamilisai remarked.
The BJP leader also condemned Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin for his remarks against Sanatana Dharma, calling his speech divisive. “Sanatana Dharma is a way of life, deeply rooted in Tamil culture. Udhayanidhiâs comments are aimed at creating divisions among the people, and his refusal to apologize is an affront to our judiciary,” Tamilisai added.
Refuting claims made by Udhayanidhi Stalin about womenâs rights and Tamil culture, Tamilisai said, âWomen have been part of the freedom struggle long before figures like Periyar and Annadurai. Andal, a revered Tamil poet, has been a symbol of Tamil spirituality for centuries. The DMK cannot claim sole responsibility for Tamil pride or womenâs rights.â
When asked about actor Vijayâs recent political entry and his maiden conference, Tamilisai dismissed any suggestion that it posed a threat to the BJP. She hinted that it was, in fact, the ruling DMK that seemed fearful of Vijay’s rise in politics.
The remarks come as Tamil Naduâs political scene continues to shift, with tensions between the DMK and opposition parties intensifying ahead of future elections.
