:The Revenue and Disaster Management Department has announced that 15 teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and 15 teams from the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are on high alert to tackle potential challenges arising from heavy rains in the Delta and other districts.
According to the department’s report:
The Northeast Monsoon has recorded 6% more rainfall than the average. Districts like Ramanathapuram and Nagapattinam have been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past two days. To oversee relief and rescue operations in Ramanathapuram, Vallalar has been deployed as the monitoring officer.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that isolated areas in Nagapattinam, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, and Kanniyakumari districts could receive up to 20 cm of rainfall.
Adequate equipment has been prepared for relief and rescue operations, and zonal-level teams have been formed to monitor the situation continuously.
The IMD also reported the formation of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Indian Ocean and the southern Andaman Sea. This system is likely to evolve into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. Within the next two days, it could intensify into a well-marked low-pressure system over the central Bay of Bengal.
As a result, from November 25 to 27, districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Cuddalore, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Ramanathapuram are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Collectors have been directed to implement all necessary precautionary measures to face the rains. Additionally, 15 teams from the NDRF and 15 teams from the SDRF have been kept on standby to respond to emergencies.
