Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has stated that while he holds differing opinions and disagreements with Dravidian parties, his commitment to their broader ideals remains intact. He made these remarks during a recent event in Chennai.
Speaking at the event, Thirumavalavan said, âCriticizing the DMK as a political party is different from opposing the Dravidian ideology. DMK is an electoral party, a ruling party, and a party that has been in power for years. There are ample opportunities to criticize it, and one can do so. However, differences with Dravidian parties and varied perspectives must not be equated with rejection of their principles.â
Addressing allegations that he is yielding to pressure from the DMK, Thirumavalavan stated, âIn the electoral field, if one decides not to explore other opportunities, it is seen as a principled decision. However, some claim that the DMK pressured me into submission. This narrative oversimplifies the situation.â
He added that during previous assembly and Lok Sabha elections, his party prioritized national interest over numbers. âI have repeatedly emphasized that the growth of Sanatana forces in this land must be prevented. Our continued alliance with the DMK reflects this commitment, even if it is not widely debated or understood.â
Thirumavalavan reiterated that his party remains steadfast in its efforts to curb the influence of forces attempting to establish a foothold in Tamil Nadu. âDravidian politics is not confined to the DMK alone. Regardless of criticisms, setbacks, or losses, we will continue to stay within the secular alliance led by the DMK.â
He concluded by stating, âInstead of appreciating our principled stance, critics allege that we are succumbing to DMKâs influence. These criticisms lack depth and fail to recognize the larger picture of preserving secular and Dravidian values in the state.â
