IIT-Madras partners with Roche Diagnostics for AI in Healthcare

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has entered into a strategic partnership with Roche Diagnostics International, Switzerland, to advance research and development in artificial intelligence (AI) for in-vitro diagnostics (IVD). The collaboration is led by IIT-M’s Centre for Responsible AI (CeRAI) and aims to develop innovative and ethical AI-driven solutions in healthcare.According to an official release by IIT-M, CeRAI and Roche, a global leader in IVD and digital health solutions, will work together on AI analytics and diagnostic services.
At the ‘IITM-CeRAI, Roche Symposium on Responsible AI in Healthcare’, held at the IIT-M campus, Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean (Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Research), highlighted the institute’s growing role in industry-driven research.“There is a strong emphasis on scaling up laboratory research and ensuring that findings are translated into real-world applications.
IIT-M’s increasing number of patents and technological innovations reflects our commitment to impactful research,” he said.Prof. B. Ravindran, Head of CeRAI, emphasized the need for responsible AI development, stating that close collaboration between AI scientists and healthcare experts is crucial for ethical AI deployment.
“Roche has an active research program focused on ethical AI and data management, and we look forward to working closely with them to build robust and responsible AI systems in healthcare,” he added.
Manu Dev, Chapter Lead for IVD Analytics Product Domain at Roche Information Solutions (RIS), stressed the importance of data-driven decision-making in healthcare.“At Roche, we believe data plays a crucial role in helping healthcare providers and patients make informed choices. This framework agreement with IIT-Madras will enable us to collaborate on AI-driven digital health solutions for in-vitro diagnostics. By sharing knowledge and expertise, we move closer to achieving a more efficient and patient-centric healthcare system,” he said.
The partnership between IIT-Madras and Roche marks a significant step in integrating AI with diagnostics, paving the way for innovative and responsible healthcare solutions.
