Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of one count of sexual assault in his New York retrial. He was cleared of another charge, while the jury is still deciding on a third charge of rape.
The jury includes seven women and five men. They listened to six weeks of testimony. Three women—Miriam Haley, Jessica Mann, and Kaja Sokola—spoke about their experiences.
Weinstein was found guilty of assaulting Haley in 2006. But he was found not guilty in the case involving Sokola. The jury has not yet made a decision about Jessica Mann’s claim that he raped her in 2013.
This retrial happened after Weinstein’s 2020 conviction was overturned. That earlier case had played a big role in the MeToo movement. The conviction was canceled due to legal mistakes, leading to this new trial in the same Manhattan court.
Weinstein, now 73, has denied all charges. During the trial, one juror said they felt pressure from others, so the judge spoke to the jurors in private.
The jury will continue discussions to reach a final verdict on the remaining charge.
