The Directorate of School Education and Primary Education has announced that the annual art festival competitions for school students in Tamil Nadu will be held from 4th August to 28th November 2025. A circular regarding this has been sent to all primary education officers across the state.The competitions are meant for students studying in government and government-aided schools. Over the last three years, such art festivals have been conducted successfully, and students who won in various categories were given prizes and certificates. This year, too, the competitions will continue as part of the current academic year.
The theme for this year’s art festival is “Greenery and Tradition”, encouraging students to express their creativity while highlighting environmental and cultural values. The competitions will be held in five categories based on age and class, ranging from Class 1 to Class 12.
Various events are planned for the festival, including storytelling, painting, speech, disguise (fancy dress), Thirukural recitation, melody singing, folk dance, Bharatanatyam, sand sculpture, Villu Pattu, village dance (Gramiya Nadanam), comedy, polyphonic speech, and performances with traditional instruments like pambai, udukkai, paarai, mrudangam, drums, violin, keyboard, nadaswaram, as well as puppetry.
The competitions will be conducted in phases. School-level competitions will take place from 4th to 18th August, followed by district-level competitions from 25th to 29th August. The regional-level events will be held between 13th and 17th October, and zonal-level contests from 27th to 31st October. The state-level competitions will be conducted from 24th to 28th November.
At the state level, top-performing students will be honored with the titles Kalaiarasan (for boys) and Kalaiarasi (for girls). Additionally, 25 students who achieve top ranks will be selected for an educational tour abroad. The festival aims to encourage young talent and promote Tamil Nadu’s rich cultural and artistic heritage.
