Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the State Highways Authority and the Kalaignar Centenary Building at the Highways Research Institute premises in Guindy yesterday.The Kalaignar Centenary Building, constructed at a cost of Rs 19 crore, spans 5546.50 sq m over three floors and includes a lift facility. The building is part of capacity-building initiatives for the Highways Department under the Chennai-Kanniyakumari Industrial Project, supported by the Asian Development Bank.
The newly formed TN State Highways Authority aims to accelerate road development projects, including six-lane highways and expressways, using public-private partnerships. Its objectives include improving road infrastructure to world-class standards, implementing projects with advanced technologies, and ensuring high-quality controls within set budgets and timelines.
The authority will also enhance connectivity between state highways and local roads, improving travel efficiency and promoting economic growth and industrial development in Tamil Nadu. The Chief Minister also unveiled the official logo of the new authority during the event.
