Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin on Tuesday announced that a resolution would be introduced in the upcoming Monsoon Session of the State Assembly, demanding an immediate end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and calling for the cessation of hostilities.Speaking at a protest organised by the CPI(M) in Chennai to condemn Israel’s attacks on Gaza, Stalin said the resolution—set to be tabled when the Assembly convenes on October 14—would urge the Central Government to exert diplomatic pressure on Israel to stop the war and ensure a ceasefire. He said the move would reflect the sentiments of the people of Tamil Nadu.
Strongly condemning Israel’s offensive, Stalin described the attacks as a gross violation of international human rights and UN norms. He expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, pledging Tamil Nadu’s “moral and wholehearted support” to their struggle for peace, dignity, and human rights.
Quoting reports, Stalin said that in the past year alone, over 50,000 people have been killed in Gaza, including 11,000 women, 17,000 children, 175 journalists, and 125 UN staff. He added that more than 26,000 children have lost their parents, and over one lakh people have been injured or hospitalised due to continuous bombardment.
Recalling a tragic incident in June, Stalin said 45 starving Palestinians waiting for food aid were shot dead by Israeli forces. “Such barbaric acts have shattered the conscience of humanity. No one can remain silent in the face of such atrocities,” he said, also condemning the arrest of NGO volunteers from 47 countries who were attempting to deliver food and medicine to Gaza.
The Chief Minister urged the Union Government to work with the UN and other nations to end the violence, ensure humanitarian aid, and help rebuild Gaza. He called for medical, food, and reconstruction assistance to be extended to the war-torn region, along with a firm global assurance on rehabilitation and peace.
“Those who believe in humanity should not treat this as someone else’s problem. World peace belongs to everyone, and protecting human lives and rights is our collective duty,” Stalin said, voicing hope that all political parties in Tamil Nadu would support the resolution unanimously.
