Chennai emerged as the overall champion of the CM Trophy 2025, concluding a week-long celebration of athletic excellence across Tamil Nadu. The closing ceremony, held on Tuesday, was graced by Chief Minister M K Stalin, who presented the winners’ trophy to Team Chennai. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments P K Sekar Babu, and senior officials from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), including Atulya Misra and Meghanatha Reddy, were also present at the event.
In a significant move to support athletes, CM Stalin launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Sportsperson’s Medical Insurance Scheme’ (CMSMIS). This initiative aims to provide comprehensive medical insurance coverage to sportspersons across the state, ensuring their health and well-being are safeguarded as they train and compete at various levels.
The final day of the competition showcased high-intensity events, with Road Cycling taking center stage. In the School Boysâ 10KM race, Chennai secured a one-two finish as Ilampirai Iniyan took gold and R Sanjay claimed silver. Coimbatoreâs Pranesh earned bronze. In the School Girlsâ 10KM race, Coimbatoreâs Hashini K won gold, while Thoothukudiâs Niraimathi and Nandhini T completed the podium.
In the College Boysâ 20KM event, Chennaiâs S Kavish powered to gold, followed by Tirunelveliâs A Rajansmith (silver) and Trichyâs K Pradeep Sankara (bronze). Coimbatore continued its strong showing in the College Girlsâ 20KM race, with S Thabitha clinching gold. Chengalpattuâs Dhanyadha J P and Chennaiâs Nafish Huzefa Millwala took silver and bronze respectively.
In College Boysâ Volleyball, Chengalpattu swept all three matches to take gold. Chennai, despite scoring the highest total points (305), took silver with one win. Coimbatore earned bronze based on point difference. The Games featured a prize purse of Rs 37 crore, highlighting Tamil Naduâs growing commitment to sports and athlete welfare.
