Chembarambakkam Lake sees sharp rise in water level

The Chembarambakkam Lake, one of Chennai’s main drinking water sources, has recorded a significant rise in its water level following recent heavy rains.
The lake now holds 3.14 TMC ft of water — almost double the 1.62 TMC ft recorded during the same period last year. With an inflow of 837 cusecs from surrounding catchment areas, the water level has reached 22.08 feet.

Officials said they may soon increase water discharge to safely manage the inflow. The sharp rise in storage is expected to ensure a steady and stronger water supply for Chennai in the coming months.
