The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has introduced a new bus route, No. 96, connecting Adyar and West Tambaram bus termini to enhance public transport options in southern Chennai. Seven buses have been allocated to operate on this route, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity between the southern and southwestern parts of the city. The new service was officially flagged off on Sunday at Pallikaranai by Health Minister Ma Subramanian. The event was attended by Sholinganallur MLA, senior officials of MTC including the General Managers of Operations and South, and other staff members. This route aims to benefit daily commuters, including those traveling along the IT corridor, providing them with an efficient and convenient transit option between Adyar and the busy suburban hub of Tambaram. In addition to launching this new bus service, MTC has started distributing the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), known locally as the Singara Chennai Card, directly through bus conductors. Passengers can purchase the card on-board for Rs 50, with an additional Rs 50 as a pre-loaded balance. The card promotes fast, smart, and cashless travel across all MTC services once activated by the user. This development is part of MTC’s ongoing efforts to enhance public transportation infrastructure and encourage greater use of public transit in Chennai. @@@
