Cool, breezy mornings have added a fresh spring to the steps of walkers across Chennai, with parks, beaches and residential stretches witnessing higher footfall in the early hours. From Marina Beach to neighbourhood walking tracks, many say the pleasant weather has made morning walks longer, calmer and more refreshing.“The chill is mild but noticeable. It makes you want to walk an extra round,” said R. Kannan, a regular walker at Marina. “Usually by this time of the year, the humidity is higher. Now, it feels comfortable.”
At Anna Nagar Tower Park and Nageswara Rao Park in Mylapore, walkers said the cooler mornings have helped them return to routine after weeks of irregular schedules. “When the mornings are pleasant, motivation comes naturally,” said Meenakshi Srinivasan, a senior citizen. “It’s good for both body and mind.”
Fitness enthusiasts say the weather has improved endurance. “You don’t tire out quickly, and breathing feels easier,” noted Arun Prakash, a software professional who walks along the Besant Nagar beach road. “For Chennai, this is a luxury.”
Many also see the change as a reminder to prioritise health. “Such mornings don’t last long here,” said Lakshmi Narayanan, a retired banker. “We should make the most of it — walk more, breathe better, and slow down.”
With cool air, quieter roads and softer sunlight, Chennai’s mornings have briefly turned into a walker’s delight — a rare pause in the city’s otherwise humid rhythm.
