The longstanding Chengalpattu–Mamallapuram railway project continues to be plagued by delays, drawing frustration from local commuters and residents who have been awaiting improvements in connectivity along the busy suburban corridor. According to reports from LiveChennai, the project — announced nearly 17 years ago — remains incomplete, with construction setbacks continuing to affect travel between the two key towns. The slow pace of work has sparked concerns among daily passengers who rely on the route for commuting, tourism inflow to Mamallapuram and seamless travel within southern Tamil Nadu. Local stakeholders have repeatedly urged authorities to expedite the project, but tangible progress has yet to materialise. Infrastructure experts note that while the project aims to enhance connectivity and boost regional development, delays in land acquisition, funding and coordination among implementing agencies appear to have hampered timely execution. Commuters have called on the State and Southern Railway officials to set a clear timeline for completing the railway link. In addition to transport concerns, other community news highlights from LiveChennai include developments such as the reopening of Victoria Public Hall as a cultural hub and continued interest in local social events and business updates. Officials have yet to provide an updated timeline for the railway project’s completion, but public pressure is mounting as expectations grow for operational improvements in the near future.
