Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged students to approach education with a positive mindset, emphasising that learning should not feel like a burden and should go beyond chasing marks. He spoke during the ninth edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha 2026, a nationwide interactive programme where he engages with students on exam stress, skills, and overall personal development.
Addressing a large group of students from across India, Modi said that putting in half-hearted effort won’t lead to success and urged young learners to be fully involved in their educational journey rather than viewing it merely as a means to score high marks.
“Education should not feel like a burden. It requires our total involvement,” he said, adding that exams should not become the ultimate goal in life. Instead, he encouraged students to see education as a way to improve life and build skills that help in both personal and professional growth.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of balancing studies with rest, hobbies, and life skills, saying that both life skills and professional skills are essential and begin with solid knowledge. He cautioned against wasting time online just because data is cheap and told students to focus their energy on meaningful learning and self-awareness.
Modi also shared a personal reflection, urging students not to dwell on the past but to concentrate on what lies ahead. “Our goal should be such that it is within reach but not easily attainable,” he said, stressing that mastering the mind and understanding what to study are key to success.
At the event, Modi also stressed the role of teachers in guiding students toward comprehensive development rather than only preparing them for exams. The programme, which began in 2018, has grown significantly, with this year’s edition recording record participation from millions of students across India.
