With the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state has announced the formation of a special committee to bring more parties into its alliance, aiming to strengthen its electoral prospects. The announcement was made by BJP Tamil Nadu state president Nainar Nagendran, who said the move is intended to expand the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ahead of the polls.According to the BJP statement, the new committee will engage in talks with leaders and representatives of different political parties interested in joining the NDA. Former MP and party deputy leader Durai Sami has been appointed as the committee chairman, while retired DGP Balachandran will serve as the vice-chairman, lending administrative and strategic experience to the outreach efforts.
The BJPâs initiative reflects the intense political preparations underway in Tamil Nadu, where alliances and seat-sharing discussions are actively shaping up as parties gear up for a competitive election season. Building a broader coalition could improve the NDAâs chances against rival blocs led by the DMK and other regional formations.
