In preparation for the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party has announced that it will commence formal seat-sharing negotiations with its alliance partners from 22 February. This announcement comes as part of the partyās broader election strategy to finalize electoral arrangements within the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) ahead of the polls.
According to the official statement issued by the DMK headquarters, the party has been intensifying campaign efforts across the state. Party workers have been actively engaged in ground-level political work, including voter outreach, booth-level organization, and awareness drives. The voter list revision exercise has also been completed, and extensive public feedback has been collected as part of preparations for the upcoming polls.
The DMK is setting up a dedicated seat-sharing committee, which will begin negotiations with ally parties once the current legislative assembly session concludes.
The decision to formalize the timetable for alliance talks comes amidst pressure from Congress leaders, who have repeatedly urged the DMK to start negotiations and clarify seat allocation well in advance of the elections.
