In the Lok Sabha session yesterday, DMK Member of Parliament T.R. Baalu questioned the Central government about several promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking what had happened to commitments concerning development and employment for Tamil Nadu.
During his address in the Parliament’s Lower House, Baalu highlighted concerns over the lack of approval for metro projects in Madurai and Coimbatore. He pointed out that the necessary funds for land acquisition for various railway projects in Tamil Nadu have not yet been released by the Union government, raising questions about the delay in progress.
Baalu also reiterated people’s expectations regarding two major promises attributed to the Prime Minister: the creation of 2 crore jobs annually nationwide and doubling prices paid to farmers for agricultural produce. He urged the government to clarify the status of these pledges, suggesting that they remain unfulfilled or unclear so far.
The MP’s intervention reflects ongoing criticism from opposition parties in Parliament about unmet assurances and developmental delays. Baalu’s remarks come amid broader debates over fund allocations and project approvals for Tamil Nadu, where state leaders have frequently urged the Centre to expedite support for crucial infrastructure and welfare initiatives.
