Former confidante of Jayalalithaa, V. K. Sasikala has officially floated a new political party and unveiled its election flag, signalling a fresh entry into Tamil Nadu’s political landscape ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. The flag prominently features the image of J. Jayalalithaa, the late AIADMK supremo, underscoring Sasikala’s attempt to evoke the legacy and support base associated with the former Chief Minister.
Sasikala, who was expelled from the AIADMK and has since been at odds with the party’s current leadership, announced the new party in a public gathering attended by her supporters. Speaking at the event, she reaffirmed her commitment to upholding the ideals she says were championed by Jayalalithaa and challenged the existing leadership of her former party. The decision to launch a separate political outfit comes as the AIADMK faces internal divisions and electoral pressure from rival parties in the State.
Political observers note that this move could reshape opposition dynamics in Tamil Nadu, especially by potentially splitting votes among anti-incumbent segments.
