A comprehensive new report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Tamil Nadu Election Watch has revealed a concerning statistical profile of the state’s current legislative body. According to the data, 62% of the sitting MLAs in Tamil Nadu have declared criminal cases against themselves in their election affidavits. This includes a significant number of cases classified as “serious,” involving charges that carry substantial prison sentences.
Beyond the legal aspect, the report also sheds light on the immense personal wealth held by the state’s representatives. It notes that an overwhelming 87% of the current MLAs are “crorepatis,” meaning they possess declared assets valued at over ₹1 crore. This highlights a growing trend of financial concentration within the political sphere, raising questions about the diversity of economic representation in the legislative assembly.
The ADR has released this data to provide voters with a clearer picture of the background and financial standing of their elected officials. By making this information public, the organization hopes to encourage greater accountability and transparency in the democratic process, urging citizens to consider these factors when evaluating the performance and integrity of their representatives.

It is very sad that the IAS Babus, Policemen,
Election Department, Courts,….
have allowed People of India to have MPs / MLAs
with Criminal cases / records as their leaders.
