Washington, Mar 21:
The United States has issued a temporary 30-day waiver allowing the sale of Iranian oil already at sea, in a move aimed at easing global supply pressures triggered by ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The waiver, announced by the administration of Donald Trump, permits transactions involving crude oil that had been loaded onto tankers before sanctions restrictions tightened. The measure is intended to release significant volumes of oil into the global market and help stabilise rising prices.
Officials clarified that the exemption is strictly temporary and applies only to existing shipments, ensuring that it does not provide long-term financial benefits to Iran. The move comes as disruptions in key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz have strained global energy supplies.
The decision is seen as a strategic step to balance geopolitical pressures while preventing a sharp spike in oil prices, even as the broader conflict in the region continues.
