Director Someetharan has revealed that his upcoming film Neelira aims to present a deeply human perspective on war, focusing not on violence but on the lives lived within it.
Speaking at the film’s pre-release event, the filmmaker said the story is inspired by his own experiences growing up during the Sri Lankan civil war. He emphasized that the film captures everyday moments—education, love, marriage, and family life—unfolding amidst conflict.
Someetharan explained that war is often portrayed narrowly as battles between opposing forces, but Neelira shifts the lens to civilians caught in between. The film highlights how people continue to celebrate milestones and live their lives even under constant fear and uncertainty.
He also noted that the project reflects the long-standing aspiration of Eelam Tamil artists to see their culture, homes, and identity represented on screen. Backed by Karthik Subbaraj’s production house, the film seeks to introduce a new narrative space in Tamil cinema.
Describing it as neither a conventional war film nor an art-house project, the director said Neelira focuses on “life within war,” portraying the emotional tension and constant fear experienced by those living through it.
Featuring actors like Naveen Chandra and others, Neelira is set to hit theatres on April 3, promising a poignant and immersive cinematic experience rooted in reality.
