Chennai, Apr 2:
The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning that heatwave conditions are likely to develop across Tamil Nadu from April 10, with temperatures expected to rise sharply in several districts.
According to weather officials, the state is already witnessing rising summer temperatures, and the intensity is expected to increase further in the coming days.
Experts have indicated that coastal and interior regions may both experience hot and humid conditions, with daytime temperatures climbing significantly above normal levels.
The warning comes amid broader forecasts that Tamil Nadu could see more heatwave days this summer season, with some areas likely to record temperatures crossing 40°C during peak periods, especially in interior districts.
In cities like Chennai, officials have already cautioned about heat stress and discomfort, with intermittent rainfall offering only temporary relief.
Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions, including avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours, staying hydrated, and limiting outdoor activities.
Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and outdoor workers are expected to be most at risk during the heatwave period.
With summer intensifying across the state, officials are closely monitoring weather patterns and have urged people to remain alert as heatwave conditions begin to set in from the second week of April.
