Islamabad, Apr 11:
A high-level Iranian delegation led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in Pakistan to hold crucial talks with the United States, as efforts continue to stabilise a fragile ceasefire in the Middle East.
The negotiations, being facilitated in Islamabad, are seen as a key diplomatic step following weeks of heightened tensions and military exchanges in the region. Pakistan’s role as a mediator has gained prominence, with both sides looking to prevent further escalation and explore a path toward de-escalation.
However, significant differences remain. Iran is reportedly pushing for sanctions relief, unfreezing of assets, and a broader ceasefire that includes conflict zones such as Lebanon.
The United States, on the other hand, is believed to be focusing on core security concerns, including Iran’s nuclear programme and regional activities.
With global attention fixed on the outcome, the talks are expected to play a decisive role in determining whether the current pause in hostilities can evolve into a more durable peace or give way to renewed instability in the region.
