Chennai, Apr 21:
Campaigning for the high-stakes 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will conclude at 5 PM today bringing to an end weeks of intense political activity across the State.
Leaders of major parties and their allied formations were engaged in hectic last-minute canvassing, addressing rallies and roadshows across constituencies in a bid to make a final connect with voters.
The campaign phase saw aggressive outreach, with parties highlighting their achievements, promises, and contrasting visions for governance.
Polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies is scheduled to be held on April 23, with the State machinery gearing up for a smooth and orderly electoral process.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Commission of India, the total number of polling stations has risen from 68,467 to 75,035, marking an increase of nearly 10%.
5,938 polling stations across 3,022 locations have been identified as ‘sensitive’ or ‘critical’. These booths will be placed under close surveillance, with the deployment of micro-observers, CCTV monitoring, and armed security personnel to ensure free and fair elections.
With campaigning drawing to a close, the focus now shifts entirely to the electorate, as Tamil Nadu prepares to vote in what is expected to be a closely watched electoral contest.
