Chennai, Apr 27: More than 5,000 CCTV cameras have been deployed across counting centres in Chennai as Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) from 16 Assembly constituencies were safely transported and secured under tight security.

The EVMs were moved under heavy police and paramilitary protection after polling and sealed in the presence of political party representatives before being placed in strong rooms at designated centres.

At Loyola College, machines from six constituencies, including Kolathur, Villivakkam, and Anna Nagar, have been stored. Queen Mary’s College houses EVMs from five constituencies such as RK Nagar and Royapuram, while Anna University is securing machines from five constituencies including T. Nagar and Velachery.

All strong rooms have been sealed and placed under continuous surveillance.

Authorities have implemented a robust four-layer security system at all centres, comprising Central Armed Police Forces, Tamil Nadu Special Police, Armed Reserve Police, and local law and order personnel, including traffic and crime units.

Officials said the extensive surveillance network and multi-tier security arrangement are aimed at ensuring the safety and integrity of the EVMs until counting day.
