Chennai, Apr 28: The India Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for Tamil Nadu, warning of rising temperatures across several districts along with a forecast of rainfall beginning April 30.
Heat Wave Conditions Intensify
Several parts of the state are currently experiencing intense heat, with districts like Karur and Vellore recording temperatures of up to 104°F (40°C).
Other regions including Chennai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Kanyakumari, Madurai, and Vellore have reported temperatures about 3°C above normal, making daytime conditions particularly harsh.
Meanwhile, isolated light showers were recorded in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari, offering limited respite from the heat.
According to IMD, the sudden change in weather is due to a low-pressure trough extending from central India to the southern region. This system, passing through parts of Vidarbha, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu, has created unstable atmospheric conditions.
The department has forecast rainfall in several districts over the coming days.
April 30:
Rain is likely in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Theni, and Dindigul.
May 1 & 2:
Rain may continue in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Theni, and Dindigul, with hill regions expected to receive isolated showers.
