Chennai, June 15:
Leader of the Opposition and DMK Youth Wing Secretary M.K. Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday strongly criticised the ruling TVK government over the death of a three-year-old girl near Gummidipoondi following an alleged assault, and called for immediate steps to strengthen law and order across Tamil Nadu.
Expressing shock and anguish over the incident, Udhayanidhi urged the police to identify all those responsible and ensure that stringent action is taken at the earliest. He stressed that crimes against women and children must be dealt with zero tolerance and swift justice.
In a statement, he alleged that incidents of serious crime, which were once perceived as isolated or occurring in distant regions, were now being reported frequently in Tamil Nadu. He described the current administration as ineffective in maintaining public safety.
Targeting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Udhayanidhi said the government had failed to assert control over law and order despite being in office for over a month. He further criticised the administration, alleging that political priorities were being placed above governance.
“At a time when the government is focused on political manoeuvring, it must show greater responsibility towards ensuring the safety and security of women and children,” he said.
The DMK leader also referred to a series of recent incidents reported across the state, including allegations of misconduct involving a political functionary in Salem, a complaint from a woman in Alandur, and a grievance raised by a woman police constable in Sivaganga.
He warned that the overall law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was deteriorating and urged the Chief Minister to convene a high-level meeting of senior police officials. He called for strict directives to district and zonal authorities to prevent such crimes and enhance public safety measures.
Udhayanidhi further cautioned that if such incidents continued, the DMK would launch statewide protests to press for accountability and stronger governance.
