Paris, Aug. 26:
Officials of the Indian Embassy in France paid solemn tribute to victims of the 1950 and 1966 Air India crashes at the memorial at Nid d’Aigle in the Mont Blanc region.
Deputy Chief of Mission Eenam Gambhir laid a wreath at the memorial dedicated to the victims of the two Air India aircraft crashes.
The ceremony marked the seventh anniversary of the memorial’s inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reaffirmed India’s commitment to preserving the memory of those who lost their lives in the tragedies.
The 1966 crash was particularly significant for India as it claimed the life of Homi J Bhabha, the pioneering nuclear physicist who played a crucial role in establishing India’s nuclear programme.
During her visit, Gambhir also met Saint-Gervais-les-Bains Mayor Jean-Marc Peillex and thanked the municipality for its continued care and preservation of the Air India memorial.
The discussions also covered continued cooperation in maintaining the memorial site and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and France.
The memorial serves as a lasting reminder of the lives lost in the two aviation tragedies and the enduring connection between India and the French Alps.
