Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will be convened from 6 April to debate on the demand for grants for each department.

The session is expected to be stormy, with the Opposition parties planning to raise various issues, including the property tax hike and law and order.
The Assembly will meet at 10 am at Fort St George. The Assembly presented Financial and Agriculture budgets last month.

Asked about the concerns raised by a few MLAs over the space crunch in the Assembly Hall at Fort St. George, Speaker M Appavu said the members would have felt that way since the earlier sessions were held in the spacious Kalaivanar Arangam on Wallajah Road.

On a query about shifting the assembly to Omandurar Estate given the complaints of space crunch, Appavu said that former Chief Ministers J Jayalalithaa and Edappadi K Palaniswami held the Assembly session in Fort St George after New Secretariat Complex in Omandurar Estate was turned into a multispecialty hospital.

The session will have a total of 21 sittings from 6 April to 10 May,Appavu said after chairing a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee. The session will kick off with the Demands for Grants for the Water Resources Department headed by senior Minister Durai Murugan. The Demands for Grants for Municipal Administration will be presented on 7 April, while Cooperatives and Food on April 8, School and Higher education on 11 April, Highways and Small Ports on 12 April, Agriculture on 13 April, Industries on 27 April, and Finance on 9 May.

Ahead of the Assembly session, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin held review meetings with various departments on Monday.

According to an official release, Stalin reviewed the announcements made during the demand for grants last financial year, including those made under Rule 110. He also discussed the announcements to be made during the upcoming session.

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly will be convened from 6 April to debate on the demand for grants for each department.
