VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan on Tuesday called for the national leadership of the Congress party to intervene in the escalating Cauvery water dispute between Karnataka’s Congress government and Tamil Nadu’s DMK government.“As a constituent of the INDIA bloc, I am appealing to the national leadership of the Indian National Congress to immediately intervene in the Cauvery issue to diffuse the prevailing tense situation,” Thirumavalavan stated.
Thirumavalavan expressed concern that the Karnataka government’s stance could damage the relationship between the two states. “The Karnataka government’s approach will ruin the relationship between the two states. It cannot justify in any way denying the rightful share of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu despite the regulatory authority’s recommendation,” he asserted.
He further criticized national parties like Congress and BJP for favoring their respective state units in inter-state water disputes such as the Cauvery issue. “While this may provide a temporary escape from criticism, it results in long-term discontent and undermines federalism,” Thirumavalavan added.
