Tamil Nadu BJP state president K. Annamalai raised alarms on Wednesday over potential security risks facing the state, citing China’s growing strategic presence in Sri Lanka and alleged infiltration of ISIS elements in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters after launching the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana scheme in Adyar, Annamalai urged Governor R. N. Ravi to take proactive steps in addressing these issues, leveraging his extensive governance experience to enhance the state’s law and order framework.
Highlighting China’s expanding footprint in the Indian Ocean, Annamalai pointed to Beijing’s infrastructure investments in Sri Lanka, including the strategically significant Hambantota port, as a pressing concern. He argued that the Governor, given his expertise, is uniquely placed to evaluate the implications of such developments for Tamil Nadu’s security.
Addressing the ongoing controversy surrounding the Jaffer Sadiq case, Annamalai expressed concerns over the unusual developments in the investigation. He noted the recusal of a justice, the transfer of investigative officers, and the arrest of an officer who previously handled the case. He demanded a detailed clarification from the Director-General of Police (DGP) on the status and progress of the case.
Annamalai also commented on the Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) demand for horizontal reservation for the Vanniyar community. While acknowledging the PMK’s right to pursue its policy goals, he emphasized the need for proportional representation to balance the competing demands for reservation.
Taking a strong stance against the ruling DMK government, Annamalai criticized Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s handling of a recent sexual assault case at Anna University. He alleged that the state’s law and order machinery has deteriorated under the DMK regime, allowing criminals to operate with impunity.
