The pre-release event of the grand pan-Indian film Kannappa was held yesterday, ahead of its worldwide release on June 27. Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and starring Vishnu Manchu, the film features a star-studded cast including Prabhas, Mohanlal, Sarathkumar, Dr. Mohan Babu, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, and Preethi Mukundhan.
Speaking at the event, actor Sarathkumar said films like Kannappa are essential to spread devotion among the people, especially the younger generation. “Kannappa is the story of a fierce devotee of Lord Shiva, one of the 63 Nayanmars. While legends like Rajkumar and Krishna have already brought this story to the screen, Vishnu Manchu has presented it from a fresh perspective. The transformation of a non-believer into a passionate devotee is the core of this film,” he said.
He praised the hard work and vision behind the film, especially the decision to shoot extensively in New Zealand. “Calling New Zealand heaven on earth is no exaggeration. Filming there for 120 days is no small task. The natural colors there haven’t been enhanced digitally—they’re real,” he added.
Sarathkumar also applauded the film’s technical team, noting that top talents from the US and Hong Kong contributed to cinematography and stunts. “Director Mukesh Kumar Singh, who has already proven himself with Mahabharat, has now brought Kannappa to life with depth and scale. The emotional scenes between my character and Thinna (the younger version of Kannappa) have come out powerfully,” he shared.
Emphasizing the spiritual message of the film, Sarathkumar said, “In today’s times, devotion is often forgotten until people face problems. This film reminds us of the importance of faith, especially Shiva devotion. Like Ponniyin Selvan introduced classic literature to the youth, Kannappa must also reach the next generation.”
He concluded by expressing his hope that Kannappa would transcend boundaries and find success globally, not just in India. “Vishnu Manchu has put in incredible effort and research into this project. His hard work deserves a grand success. May this film inspire faith and reach hearts across the world.”
